Ivo Režek

Ivo Režek (1898 – 1979)

The role of Ivo Režek in the development of modern Croatian painting has not been sufficiently stressed by contemporary art historians and, in my opinion, his work requires re-evaluation. He has been considered one of the leading realists in the period between the two wars. Unfortunately for Režek, it was just that consistent realist orientation which led to unjustified critical neglect of his work in the second half of the twentieth century.
