Julije Klović, the greatest illuminator of High Renaissance

Many Croatian painters  are known in the history of art under their latin or italianised names. For instance – Master Radovan, Juraj Čulinović (Giorgio Schiavone), Frane Vranjanin (Francesco Laurana), Lucijan Vranjanin (Luciano Laurana), Andrija Medulić (Andrea Meldola), Julije Klović (Julius Clovius), Federiko Benković (Federico Bencovich) etc

Julije Klović, for instance, (Julius Clovius) was the greatest miniaturist of the 16th century and was admired by  the likes of Michelangelo and El Greco. (this is one of two portrats of Klović done by his friend El Greco)
