Game Of Thrones Season 2: in production – Croatia

The second season of Game of Thrones, a medieval fantasy TV series based on George R. R. Martin’s best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels  is scheduled to begin airing on HBO on April 1, 2012.

The first season of the series debuted in the U.S. on April 17, 2011. A couple of weeks ago HBO ordered the production of a third and fourth season, which are to cover the third novel in the series, A Storm of Swords, and which are to be filmed from June 2012 to about February 2013. The Game of Thrones’ budget has been compared to that of Rome. The total budget for the first season has been estimated at US$50–60 million. In the second season, the show obtained a 15% increase in budget in order to be able to stage the most important battle in the “clash of kings”, the civil war that is the season’s focus.
For the second season, the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, was used instead of Malta for scenes in King’s Landing and elsewhere. You can see short clip here.
